Crews taking part in the 10th edition of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race have been busy over the last few days checking over and carrying out repair work to their sails in preperation for the start of leg 2 later today from Rio to Cape Town in South Africa.
Leg 1 covered 5,968 miles from the start in the UK to Rio de jeneiro in Brazil, the crews crossed the equator for the first time in the race, ensuring homage to Neptune was paid, they had tactical decisions to consider at the Canaries and then passing through the Doldrums. With constantly changing conditions the sails were certainly put to the test!
Hyde Sails Yacht Section Production Manager Martin Newman has been on site for the past week to assist and advise in all aspects of sail care and repair and to help prepare the teams for the next leg of the race.
