Hyde is delighted to announce the appointment of Plymouth-based Slik Cut Sails and Canvas as their new agent for the Plymouth area.
Slik Cut Sails and Canvas, based at Mount Batten, Plymouth, is run by Richard and Amanda Shelmerdine, who have been in charge of the business for three of its 12-year history.
Richard has sailed his whole life. Prior to Slik Cut, he worked within the marine industry for several years and was the Depot Manager for Marine Supplier Aquafax in Plymouth. He has also worked for the Salcombe Harbour Authority. Amanda, who previously worked in a variety of fields from estate agent to air hostess, runs Slik Cut’s office and marketing.
The Slik Cut team also includes Phil, Pat, and Sarah, who are absolute wizards when it comes to making anything out of canvas and provide high quality traditionally trained craftsmanship. In the winter time Richard’s 25-year-old son James also joins the team. It was Phil who originally set up Slik Cut - one of his first jobs was for the racing team Silk Cut when they were in Plymouth, so with a clever play on words Slik Cut was born. Phil is the ultimate craftsman with an eye for detail and design. He wanted to step back from running the business after nearly 10 years to concentrate solely on his specialist craft and teaching it to the rest of the team.
Slik Cut offers a wide range of services, making any of the canvas work normally found on boats; sprayhoods, canopies, flybridge covers, dodgers, biminis, winch covers, table and console covers to name just a few! The company also offers repairs to canvas work and sails, sail servicing and modifications.
Amanda explained the decision to team up with Hyde: "Slik Cut already had a large customer base, and we had countless requests to also provide sails. Hyde had the state of the art sail loft and the knowledgeable, friendly approach we were looking for and most importantly they were known to consistently deliver on time which was very important. This now means Slik Cut can offer a “one stop shop” for their customer base adding new sails to their services together with bespoke yacht canvas, accessories and a full repair and valeting service. The future is looking very exciting indeed."
