Friday, July 17, 2015

Hyde Sails are riding high on a collection of impressive wins this year in the Flying 15, Squib and Swallow boat classes over the past few weeks.

This week saw the crowing of Hyde Sails Head Sail Designer Richie Lovering as the Flying 15 National Champion held at the Royal Northern & Clyde Yacht Club. Racing against other sailors in the fleet that have been leading the pack for the past 30 years, Richie and Matt kept their podium position from the start with great tactics and fast sails. Richie has been working on Flying 15 sailing techniques and on designing a suit of sails that work well in various conditions.

The Swallow National Championships at Itchenor SC saw 5 out of the top 7 boats sailing with Hyde Sails including winner Mike Wigmore and his crew aboard Gwaihir who dominated the regatta with 3 bullets and a second place as a discard. With difficult conditions for the start of the day one the crews were rewarded with champagne sailing for the last race of the day sailing in F5-6 breeze with big seas. Day 2 saw much rougher conditions which brought the race inside the harbour. After 1 race the fleet returned to Itchenor for the prize giving.
