Hyde Sails has won the first leg of the 18ft Skiff European Tour, sailed on Lake Balaton in Hungary
With in a solid performance in a range of conditions, the Hyde Sails 18ft Skiff, sailed by Jack Grogan, Mike Banks and Sam Caslin, won in Hungary with two bullets.
The first two days of the event saw two races were sailed in a light 5-7 knot breeze, with Hyde Sails showing fantastic pace to win both races by very comfortable margins. It was a good display of the latest Hyde skiff sails, showing all the development over recent seasons in Australia and the UK has paid off.
Day three was cancelled due to strong winds and the final day was sailed in a solid 25 knots where Hyde Sails finished third to take the regatta.
Jack Grogan was delighted with the performance of the boat and its sails, “We were using the new sails for our No.2 rig on day four, and were hoping to make it full set of first places. Unfortunately we snapped our jib cunningham two minutes before the start, which meant our upwind pace was hampered, however when we were sailing around before the race it was evident that we were looking very strong pace-wise.”
They might be disappointed with their final race, but the team now leads the overall standings heading to the next event, which will be the European championships sailied at Torbole on Lake Garda where they will be sure to encounter some strong breeze and fierce competition from competitors from Australia as well as all over Europe.
