Changing your profile by Luke Yeates

New drawing shows how different the new keel profile is compared to the original keel. Not only is the new Keel 368kg heavier but has a significantly narrow chord length, and is 150mm longer. The new keel is going to make ‘Menace’ 1700kg all up, making her one of the heavier boats in the fleet. However ‘it is easier to cut lead off, than it is to add it on’. The hull is also going to need to strengthen significantly to deal with the extra load. We are hoping to have the boat on the water a few weeks before the Coutts Quarter ton cup which will be the first time she will be raced in anger after the re-fit.
