We had a sail rigged on a boat on the Solo class stand at the RYA Dinghy show in March. I got talking to Mark Maskell - a fellow Fireball sailor and club member from Blackwater who showed an interest in using the sail on his Solo having seen it on the show boat.
Mark took the sail and used it at a few of local South East area opens and much to his credit started putting in some pretty good results narrowly missing out on a winning trophy a couple of times. Whilst the sail was performing well in the medium and light conditions Mark commented that he was not able to de-power as much as he would have liked in the stronger breezes. He had noticed that as the sail loaded up he could not use the inhaul and Cunningham effectively. After some work and sail testing by the development team of Richard, Dave and Mark we re-shaped the tack area both in outline and seam shape. Mark then used the sail in a variety of conditions and reported back that he could now keep up with the 'big guys' in the breeze and had not lost any of the speed in the lower range.
Mark will continue to use the sail through the season and report back to us.
