Welcome to the Hyde sails squib page
For 2010 we have re-designed the page to enable interaction between the designers and the sailors through the forum. This will allow any member of the class to post questions or feelings on the page, which will be answered by a member of the team.
Mike Lennon our chief sail designer has been on the water with us over the winter creating a totally new shape for the Hyde version of the squibs sails. We have conducted months of testing trying various different sail shapes until we have finally settled on one which we all believe was convincingly faster. The jib and mainsail have been altered quite significantly as Hyde sails have approached this in a different manor believing that squib development has been very slow in the past, if not, non-existent!. Mike has used 'sailpack' a leading sail design software program developed by the Italian Americas cup syndicate to take Hyde sails squib design to the next level and also bringing a fresh approach to the class.
We are so confident of the steps forward we are offering £182 of FREE accessories with every set of sails bought and if you feel you need to only purchase the one sail we will give you £100 worth of accessories FREE but be quick we only have 20 sets!!!! (See terms and conditions. Offer ends 1st May 2010). We wish you all a fantastic year sailing and look forward to seeing you at future events.

Tuning Guide

This tuning guide is for our 2010 sails. Our sails made before 2008 were considerably fuller and require a different approach. The 2009-2010 sails are flatter than the earlier sails and are more user friendly. Both styles are fast enough to win races at the nationals when set up correctly. YOU WILL NEED TO READ THIS TO USE OUR QUICK SETUP GUIDE (TUNING GUIDE 2).

Squib mainsail

The Hyde Squib mainsail has been refined and subtly improved over the last two years. The result is an all round sail which is as effective on the sea as it is inland. The sail responds well to changes in trim whichnmake it effective throughout the wind range. The changes to the shaping have been aimed at making the sail smoother and fairer. The overall depth and power have remained the same. Most of this work has been focussed on the lower half of the sail to improve the interaction between mainsail and jib (the slot).

Squib GENOA

The new Hyde Squib genoa is a big improvement on previous designs. It is considerably deeper and more powerful in the lower half without any sacrifice in pointing. It is flatter than its predecessor in the head which has improved windward performance in a blow. The foot now seals against the deck more effectively. The new webbing and clip hanks enable the jib to be hanked on and left flaked on the deck while the boat is on the mooring. Genoas to fit the new roller systems are also available to the same design.
